A Blogging Camera for the South African – Pentax Optio WG2

Funny title I know, Google will probably like it a lot more than you do so let’s leave it at that. I have been wanting to do a post on my Pentax Optio WG2 for quite some time now. This camera definitely deserves a shout…

This little camera always seems to go over and beyond the call of duty time and time again. When I got this camera I was currently lugging a Nikon D90 around, what a mission! Great camera but almost impossible to carry around all the time. I know that you can do more with a decent camera body with lenses to match and the photos are far superior. The reason for the Pentax was my wonderful wife wanted a decent little camera to photograph the children. It needed to be small and tough. The Pentax Optio WG2 certainly meets the requirements

Aside from being a sexy little thing all dressed in red. The camera itself is drop, crush, cold, shock and water proof. Perfect for any South African Blogger or any blogger for that matter. It shoots fantastic underwater video and is super fun in the pool. Really a great buy for under $300 or R3000.

Why not the Nikon D90?
If I am to be completely honest, I don’t really care for doing Photography that much. I would much rather do life and take great photographs along the way. I simply couldn’t do this equipped with the bulky D90 and the bag holding the lenses strapped to me all the time. I probably would have missed a lot of the photos on this site if I was unable to just whip out my camera and point and shoot.

    1. HI my good friend.
I hear you, it does sound a little outrageous.
But I don’t see myself as a photographer at all, I have no interest in learning all the jargon, figuring out all the complex settings and creating scenes for photos. For me its very simple. Flash off – hold steady – shoot.
This is taking a photo which I love doing but “Doing Photography” which is lugging the kit around and all that complicated stuff is not for me right now at least

  1. Thank you Shanel. 🙂
